The Adoption Process

It can happen to the best of us. You see a cute, tiger-striped kitten with white paws and green eyes, just begging for your attention. Or maybe it's a gorgeous, tail-wagging puppy who couldn't be more friendly. You take one look, and the next thing you know, you're walking down the aisles of a pet supply store!

It is easy to fall in love with many of the cats and dogs in our shelter, but all animals and adoptive families have different needs. So here are a few things to consider when choosing your new family member.
Are you a "big" dog person or do you prefer a smaller dog?
Do you want a lap cat or an independent one?
Do you currently have pets?
Are you looking for a running partner or a fellow couch potato?
Do you want a kitten or puppy, or are you looking for an adult animal?
Adding a new pet to your home is a lifetime commitment – They are not disposable – Please think the process through!
If you are ready to proceed, please read  The Adoption Process as it will answer many questions you may have. Please be aware that the adoption process is  NOT first come first serve basis: Quite often we receive multiple applications for the same animal.  Please remember that our sole purpose is to find the best match for the animals that fall under our care.  We will carefully review ALL applications and check veterinary/personal references. We contact your veterinarian references to ensure that current and/or deceased pets were properly taken care of, this means being current on all vaccinations and spayed/neutered.   FAAS reserves the right to deny any applications that we deem unfit or unsuitable for a specific animal.

Dogs and Puppies:  All dogs and puppies receive a physical exam, rabies, parvovirus, and distemper vaccines, spaying/neutering, micro-chip, heartworm and seasonal flea & tick preventative, and worming (puppies only). The adoption fee ranges from $140 for puppies and dogs. Print our Dog Adoption Application in Word or PDF. If you rent your home, you must complete a Rental Contract as well as your adoption application.

Cats and Kittens:  All of our kittens receive a physical exam and all age-appropriate Vaccines. Adult cats receive a physical exam, Vaccines, combo test for FIV/FELV, micro-chip and are either spayed or neutered. Flea treatment, ear cleaning and nail trimming are included in the adoption fee for both cats and kittens. The adoption fee is $140 for adult cats. Senior cats (7 years older and up) are $110. Kittens may be adopted for $140 plus a $40 refundable deposit upon proof of spay or neuter. Print our Cat Adoption Application in  Word or PDF.
