Kitty Crisis!
-*FINAL UPDATE* 11/20/09- And so it ends...our "Kitty Crisis" is finally at an end. IFAW needed to use their trailer for emergency help in VA, due to recent hurricanes, so we rallied to find homes for the remaining cats living there. As of today Ipswich Humane Group is eager to help, but is full...however Melissa, one of their great volunteers has agreed to foster 3 five month old kittens, who need socialization, from the cat hoarding situation until there is more room in their shelter. FYI, Ipswich Humane Group had taken 9 CH cats in October, 4 of which have already been adopted! Kitty Connection in Medford had agreed to take 5 cats, but then called and arranged to take 8, because they had an adopter ready to adopt 2 of them as soon as they got there!
As it stands right now every foster home and every cage at
our shelter is full! But on a happy note we no longer have collapsible cages
set up on the washer and dryer as well in the front room. Unfortunately this
still means that we do NOT have any space to take in new animals until more
get adopted :(
Thank you VERY, VERY much to EVERYONE who helped during this critical time
from the volunteers that put in extra hours in their already busy schedules;
to the volunteers that donated their barn as temporary housing; to the other
rescues that came to our rescue; to the adopters for opening up their homes
and hearts; to those that donated money and supplies; to the City of
Attleboro's Animal Control Officers; to Karen Harvey for letting us release
6 semi-ferals to her feral colony; to Central Avenue Vet. Clinic (Dr.
Truesdale) for EVERYTHING he/they did and to IFAW for lending us one of
their trailers as temporary housing..
A special thank to all of our volunteers! Angie McGrath, who practically lived in the trailer cleaning and caring for the cats. Ellaina Knight, our feline care coordinator, who dedicated a ton of time to find homes/food/supplies for the cats. Kim Penque who did an outstanding job connecting to various media outlets and letting our plea for help be heard. To each and every one of the volunteers who dedicated their time to the CH cats at the shelter, and helped in every way they could. Without these volunteers there would be absolutely no way we could have helped these cats. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE!
*UPDATE* 11/03/09- Well we knew the time would come when IFAW needed their rescue trailer back...that time is soon. IFAW needs their rescue trailer (which is where the remaining 10 CH Kitties are being housed) by November 17. A big thanks to IFAW, we are very grateful for the use of this trailer. We couldn't have housed the cats without it. WE still have 10 remaining adoptable cats from this situation that need homes! Thanks to the public's generous support, there is a very reduced adoption fee, drop by, call or email for more information.
6 of the CH cats behave like ferals, we are actively seeking homes that need barn cats to place them in. If you think you can help please contact us for more information.
*UPDATE* 10/27/09- Kitty Connection in Medford has offered to take 6 of the CH kitties! Thank you so much for lending a hand! So to date that leaves 11 CH cats left living in IFAW's Emergency Shelter trailer at the shelter...If you think you may want to adopt one of these little guys just fill out an adoption application, and bring it in or you can Fax or email it to us.
*UPDATE* 10/13/09- To date, there are 7 cats that have found their furr-ever homes! check them out on our Happy Tails page. This is unbelievable! IN less than 3 weeks, these cats have been vaccinated, spayed/neutered and adopted. Ipswich Humane Group has graciously taken 9 of these cats into their care, most will be in foster homes until they are adopted, That leaves 17 currently available for adoption. Our volunteers and the public, has put an unbelievable effort to help these fantastic felines! Thank you everyone.
*UPDATE* 10/08/09- Last night two of the cats have FOUND THEIR FOREVER HOME! As of end of day today, ALL cats from this crisis have been spayed/neutered and are UTD on all shots and have been combo tested which means they will be available to adopt. Volunteers have been working so hard to help these cats, I can tell you it's been a lot of work for everyone. Between transporting to the vet, cleaning, and feeding, it's been a round-the-clock operation. IF you think you may be able to help PLEASE fill out a Volunteer Application and email or fax it to us at 508-276-0444. And Remember you can stay connected with FAAS on Facebook!
*UPDATE* 10/06/09- And the momentum continues! As of today, we have moved all the cats to the new IFAW trailer located at the shelter. We have 8 Females spayed, and 6 males neutered. Wednesday 13 males will be neutered and 6 females will be spayed. While they are in Dr. Truesdale's care they will all be combo tested! All the cats are UTD on vaccines. We added pictures at the bottom of this page, check them out!
*UPDATE* 10/02/09- We have just received word that International Fund for Animal Welfare based in Cape Cod has offered their 30ft shelter trailer. This trailer is equipped with heat, electricity, and a kitchen and will make caring for these kittys so much easier. Thank you so much! ...new pictures will be up soon...
*UPDATE* 10/01/09- As of today all the cats are up to date on vaccines, and have been treated with Revolution for their fleas and ear mites. Thank you Dr. Truesdale for visiting the barn and treating all 37 cats. 4 will be spayed today and 4 tomorrow and some more next week by the ARL Boston's Spay Waggin'. Thanks to a very positive public response these cats will have a chance at finding a forever home, THANK YOU!!!.
Please be aware that if you are interested in adopting one of these cats, our adoption process still remains that you must complete an adoption application. Please note that all the cats will be spayed/neutered before adoption, so please be patient this takes some time.

THE PROBLEM - We have been involved in an emergency situation! Due to economic and personal reasons over 40 cats were left homeless in Attleboro! Heres the whole story.
FAAS was asked to help, and standing by our mission, w
e dove
in to try! With around 80 cats currently in our care, We are full to capacity,
and we don't have the means necessary to go at this alone, that's why we
need your help.
Thankfully, our friends at Angel Cat Haven, The Providence Animal Rescue League, and Attleboro Friends of Cats where able to help by taking some of these cats, but we are still left with around 37 that need a place to go!
"If 10 rescue organizations took 3 cats, this problem would be solved."
FAAS is currently in the process of having each and everyone of these cats examined by our vet, Dr. Truesdale of Seekonk. All these cats need routine vaccines and testing to ensure their health, as well as needing to be spayed or neutered. Dr. Truesdale has offered to administer the necessary vaccines these kittys need on Wednesday Sept. 30th at their current temporary location.
We are currently in need of monetary donations - to get
these cats the care they need. Along with supplies, such as bleach,
latex gloves, Cat Litter, Cat food, paper t
owels, trash bags, and bedding.
All monetary donations can be given via PayPal or can be mailed to PO Box 592 - Attleboro, MA 02703
All Supply donations can be either picked up by our volunteers, or dropped off at the shelter - Pond St. N - Attleboro, MA 02703.
